Over the last month or so I have noticed that I am relying way to heavily on conveniences. I know there are seasons when this is appropriate because time gets away from me or I am busy with work or other things. However, lately, it seems that I am reaching for convenience without even considering the alternative. Which in the case of the collard greens really made think pause and think.
I was literally going into the one spot that I always buy collard greens knowing that I had a full row of collard greens in my garden to harvest.

I still bought the collard greens but afterwards my mind flooded with all the things lately that I have been purchasing for a quick fix rather than building the skill or taking the time to make it myself.
I just simply felt like I needed to challenge myself in this area. I have been so blessed with the harvest from my garden and the skills that I have learned from my parents, fixing things, crafts, carpentry and even cooking (a little, I'm not a chef by any means). There are so many things in my life that with a little planning, I can be a better steward of my resources whether that is my time, money, or my gifts, skills and talents.

So this month, I'm challenging myself to make it!
I have a list a mile long that I've been keeping every time I reach for something and think, I should really make this.... sometimes I fill in the end of that sentence with: because it's healthier (pesto sauce or taco seasoning), or it's cheaper (flower bouquets), or it would be more fun (homemade pasta)!
While am I still giving myself grace for the seasons when conveniences make life bearable, I'm ready for the challenge. I'm excited to see what I can accomplish. Yes, it will require some additional planning and probably more time, but I'm looking forward to gaining more skills and laughs along the way!
